Microbiology is the study of organisms that are usually too small to be seen by the unaided or naked eyes.This programme cuts across almost all areas of life which include the following amongst others: biotechnology, biodegradation, water purification, composting, sewage disposal or treatment, food industries or food microbiology, environmental microbiology, wine and beer production. It is a course which deals with understanding microbial cell and life, their structures, what they can do, what they can be used for and the benefits and dangers inherent in them. The word Microbiology was derived from a combination of the words Micros meaning small, Bios meaning life and Logos meaning study.
The Department awards Bachelor of Science in Microbilogy (B.Sc. Microbiology).
