Profile & Experiences:

Philip Akporduado Edema is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Augustine University with over 20 years of teaching and research experience. His academic interests focus on the Philosophy and Ethics of Personalism, particularly in the areas of Political Philosophy, African Philosophy, and Peace and Conflict Philosophy.

His research is grounded in the philosophy of Personalism, which emphasizes the sacredness and dignity of the human person at every stage of development. This philosophical perspective maintains that personhood is holistic, unique, and transcends mere physical or material existence. Drawing from this framework, his research explores moral and social issues relating to human dignity, coexistence, and the relationship between human beings and their environment.

Beginning with his Ph.D. dissertation, Professor Edema has consistently applied the ethics of Personalism as a framework for examining contemporary societal challenges. His teaching and scholarly work are driven by the commitment to promoting respect for human dignity, the value of life, and peaceful coexistence within society. Through his publications and academic engagements, he continues to demonstrate how the ethics of Personalism can provide meaningful responses to the human condition in the 21st century.

He also attracted a Two Million Naira grant for the organization of the International Conference in honour of Monsignor Professor Francis Ishola Ogunmodede organized by the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, Augustine University in 2024.
