Profile & Experiences:

Dr. Gbemisola Olufunke ONIPEDE is a Lecturer of Microbiology in the Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, Augustine University, Ilara-Epe, Lagos State, Nigeria. She obtained a PhD Degree in Food Microbiology in 2018 from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. She started her lecturing career at The Polytechnic, Ibadan where she was appointed as a Part-time Lecturer involved in teaching and research in aspects of Food Microbiology, Microbial Physiology and Metabolism, Pathogenic Microbiology, Microbiological Quality Control, Industrial Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Ecology & General Biology between July 2010 and October 2015. She later took up the University of Ibadan Postgraduate School Teaching and Research Assistantship while on her PhD degree programme at the Department of Microbiology, University of Ibadan, Ibadan between October 2015 and May 2018. She was appointed as a Lecturer at Augustine University, Ilara-Epe, Lagos in September 2018. She is currently involved in teaching of undergraduate students and in research with interest in genomics and technological properties of food-grade
microorganisms with the aim of using such microorganisms in the production of nutritional enhanced fermented foods.

She has over forty novel organisms’ genome sequences with accession numbers deposited into the NCBI GenBank database. About four of her research outputs have been published both in local and international reputable journals while others are under consideration. She is a member of Nigerian Society for Microbiology (NSM), American Society for Microbiology (ASM), American Association for the Advancement of Science
(AAAS), and a member and fellowship recipient (Alumna) of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). She is also a recipient of about three international workshop and conference travel grants to the UK, Singapore and South Africa.

She is married to Mr. Olufemi Onipede.
