The Student Affairs Unit of Augustine University, Ilara-Epe, Lagos State, has organised an orientation programme for University Hall Porters as part of preparations for the resumption of students for the 2026/2027 Academic Session.

The orientation, which took place on Friday, 18 September 2026, at the University Convocation Hall, was facilitated by the Student Affairs Unit, under the leadership of the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Ngozi Chikere.

The programme was designed to equip the University Hall Porters with the necessary knowledge, responsibilities and expectations required for effective service delivery and student welfare ahead of the new academic session.

During the orientation, emphasis was placed on students’ safety and security within the halls of residence, with the Porters reminded of their important role in creating a safe, orderly and conducive living environment for students.

The participants were also sensitised on the University’s dress codes and standards, as well as the codes of conduct governing both staff and students. Discussions focused on the need for Porters to understand and uphold institutional regulations while maintaining professionalism in their interactions with students.

Another major area addressed was personal and environmental hygiene. The session highlighted the importance of maintaining clean and healthy living spaces in the halls, as well as encouraging students and staff to observe proper hygiene practices to promote their wellbeing.

The orientation also provided an opportunity to discuss appropriate ways of handling students, reporting incidents and maintaining effective communication with relevant University authorities whenever issues arise within the halls.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Ngozi Chikere, stressed the importance of the Porters’ responsibilities in supporting the University’s student-centred approach. She encouraged them to remain professional, vigilant, approachable and responsive in the discharge of their duties.

She noted that the successful management of the University halls requires cooperation among the Porters, students, the Student Affairs Unit and other relevant University authorities.

The orientation formed part of the University’s broader preparations for the arrival of students and underscored the institution’s commitment to ensuring that students return to a safe, disciplined, hygienic and welcoming residential environment for the 2026/2027 Academic Session.

The programme concluded with an interactive session during which participants had the opportunity to seek clarification on issues relating to their responsibilities and the effective management of the University halls.
