The Ambassador of France to Nigeria, His Excellency, Mr. Jerome Pasquier paid a courtesy visit to Augustine University (AUI) on Wednesday The Alara of Ilara, Oba Olukayode Ogunsanwo assured the French Ambassador of smooth trade relations, educational collaboration, agro business as well as agro allied research between Augustine University and France especially as the University seem to be making giant strides in Internally Generated Revenue initiatives through agriculture with the famous AUI Garri, AUI Fish, as well as AUI Water
30 June, 2021. The visit was part of his tour of important locations within Epe town in Lagos State, especially the Sungbo Eredo embankment which is a historical site that runs from Ijebu Ode through to Ife. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Odetunde in the company of other management staff of the University welcomed the Ambassador who was accompanied by the Alara of Ilara, His Royal Majesty, Oba Olukayode Olufolarin Ogunsanwo.
The Vice-Chancellor of Augustine University in his welcome address thanked the Ambassador for finding the institution worthy of such visit while stating the many opportunities inherent in establishing a sting relationship and collaboration with the University; especially in the area of research and culture as well as exchanges. “Being a Catholic University in Nigeria and with the millions of Catholic faithfuls in France, as well as wellestablished Catholic universities there, this is a great opportunity for the Embassy to serve as a point of linkage between AUI and these universities, through exchange programs in the areas of research and culture for both staff and students.” Professor Odetunde said.
The Vice Chancellor stated further that “the Sungbo-Eredo is a living example of such collaboration. These programs will go a long way in enhancing the learning curve for staff and students from both countries; the synergy will also position AUI as a research hub”.
In his response, the French Ambassador, His Excellency, Mr. Jerome Pasquier appreciated the warm reception. While congratulating the Vice Chancellor on his
appointment, he stated his plans to establish a strong link and cooperation between Catholic universities in France with Augustine University. He equally expressed optimism of establishing trade relations with Augustine University, Ilara town and France when the Covid pandemic is over. He thanked the University management for the support towards the Sungbo Eredo project aimed at preserving a cultural heritage.
