PROF LONGE HARRISON OLORUNTADE DELE
HOD
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Mathematical Sciences, which is one of the pioneering departments that came into existence at the inception of Augustine University in 2015/2016 session, houses two major programmes: Mathematics and Computer Science. At the initial stage, when only sixteen (16) students were admitted into Computer Science Programme, a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science (Dr. Ibidapo O. AKINYEMI) was appointed as acting Head of Department to paddle both academic and administrative affairs of the Department. At a time when Dr. I.O. Akinyemi left, a Coordinator (Dr. C. Nwonye) was later appointed by the Vice-Chancellor for a period of one semester. Professor James A. Oguntuase was the pioneer Head of Department. The Department is presently headed by a full-fledged Professor of Computational Mathematics, Professor Harisson O. D. LONGE.
In terms of manpower, there are thirteen (13) academic staff members altogether, out of which three are on Professorial Cadre, another three are on Senior Lectureship Position while the rest seven are between Lecturer Grade I and Assistant Lectureship Positions (The lists are displayed under each of the programmes, as the case maybe).
However, a number of admissions have been done by the University Admission Committee into both Mathematics and Computer Science Programmes leading to the awards of B.Sc. (Hons) Degrees in each of the programmes. It is worthy of note to say that all staff members of the Department are committed to serving Augustine University Ilara-Epe (AUI) whole-heartedly with a view to producing sound, competent and well-behaved graduates for the society.

B.SC. COMPUTER SCIENCE
PROGRAMME PHILOSOPHY
To build students' knowledge of computational theories and its applications in the growing multidisciplinary fields, such as computer vision, human computer interaction, computational linguistics, visual data analytics, business intelligence, cryptography etc. Our students are equipped with industry-tailored hands-on practical knowledge that prepares them for career opportunities as network administrator, database administrator, software developer, system analyst, IT support personnel, among others.
To train human resources who will technologically help the society, particularly in the design and development of innovative technological services and products for national growth and development.
THE OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The degree programme aims at developing technologically-creative and innovative humans as graduates with good grasp of cutting-edge knowledge of computer, computational problem solving skills, entrepreneurial culture and good communication skills for the transformation of the society. The objectives of the degree programme are:
- To develop students' skills and acquire adequate knowledge for the teaching and productive research in computing sciences for the overall benefits of the society.
- To emphasize project-based learning experience, technological and vocationally-oriented training that enable acquisition of computer science knowledge and its applications in areas of artificial intelligence, software development and network design and administration.
- To equip students with industrial work experience for the purpose of self-employment and job placement in the industry for self-actualization.
- To provide courses in Computer Science to students from other departments whose degree options require general knowledge of Computer Science.
