6th FAHUMSS Seminar Series: Intellectuals Discuss Africa’s Cultural Autonomy and Economic Realities The Faculty of Humanities, Management, and Social Sciences (FAHUMSS) at Augustine University held its 6th Seminar Series on Wednesday, 29th January 2025, at the Convocation Hall. The event, which brought together faculty members, students, and university administrators, featured insightful discussions on cultural identity, business formalization, and corporate fraud control. The Dean of FAHUMSS, Professor Grace Evbuomwan, welcomed all attendees and emphasized the significance of intellectual discourse in shaping perspectives and fostering critical thinking among students. An academic paper was delivered by Rev. Professor Anthony Akinwale, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and a scholar from the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies. His lecture, titled “I No Gree Copy Oyibo Style: Fela and Rousseau as Two Identical Esprits Provocateurs,” explored how the legendary Afrobeat musician, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, resisted cultural imperialism, drawing parallels with the 18th-century philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau. The seminar also featured Dr. Abiodun Adetokunbo from the Department of Economics, who presented a paper on “Navigating the Transition: Modeling Formalization Decisions of Formal Business Owners in Nigeria.” His research examined the challenges and factors influencing business owners' transition into the formal economy. Additionally, Dr. Theophilus Aguguom, Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance, delivered a special lecture on “Corporate Fraud Control: Proactive and Reactive Roles of Accountants.” He shed light on fraudulent practices in corporate organizations and outlined effective control measures to mitigate financial misconduct. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christopher Odetunde, and the Registrar, Mrs. Margaret Aziba, graced the occasion, alongside faculty members and students from FAHUMSS.
